Background:
Bank Asia Ltd. completed its operation for the stratum 2008 with good fundamentals in respect of deposit accumulation, loans and advances, import/ exporting business, remittance business, and profitability amidst challenges of changed local and international business scenario. The concern has put their dearest effort to achieve the challenging budget of 2008, and make up brought out the best for the Bank. Although, some external factors were persistent passim the year, some achievements superseded the budgets, and some achievements were close to the budget. Before presenting the Budget for the year 2009 some economic, industry and company specific issues need to be discussed to make the budget rational.
Bangladesh Economy:
The new democratic g everywherenment activity is expected to blow a fresh air in the economy. As the Political and Socio Economical condition are expecting to be stable after the resumption of democratic government, more investments promising to come in different sectors. Asian Development Bank (ADB) forecasts Bangladeshs gross domestic product growth for the fiscal 2009 (July 2008-June 2009) to be 6.50%a.
The estimated annual GDP growth of Bangladesh economy for the pecuniary year 2007-08 (July 1 2007 to June 30 2008) at constant market price was 6.21%b, which on incumbent market price was 14.70%b. In the total GDP at current market price the manufacturing sector contributed 17.37%b followed by Agriculture and Forestry which contributed 14.83%b. In 2007-08 the trading sector see 18.50%b growth which was highest at current price, followed by the manufacturing sector which experienced 15.96%b growth. The financial intermediation sector experienced 15.25%b growth against 15.87%b of previous year.
Banking Sector:
