Later on in his argument, Darwin tries to foresee the objections he will receive and tries to explain them. He deals with a topic, Instinct afterword which he is particularly interested in. He was highly convinced that evolution should be able to explain animal behavior. He stated that natural selection could act on instincts just as it could on physical characters. As he argues about Hybridism, he tries to show that the actual inviolate distinction between varieties and species in non as clearly divided. He concludes this argument by claiming hybridism confirms that there is no snappy distinction between varieties and species.
He then argues of the imperfection of the geologic record. He points out that only a small dowry of the surface of the earth has been explored. By pointing out the facts of how long periods of clipping has been on earth and how deeply the surface of the land has been denuded, he claims that the discontinuity of species is a result of the records imperfection and not an indication that species appeared suddenly.
