Also, Harry is still in becoming mature and independent, because he feels security and support from his father. Harry also demonstrates his love for his father as a result of him feeling well parented by him. Through these ideas we can see that the relationship between Harry and his father is protective and encouraging.
Throughout the book, Herrick tells us a lot about his dads behaviours and personality that Harry observes and benefits from. He is a loving, caring and responsible father. This can be seen when Harry has a billycart accident in the poem Under lamplight (p.47). Harrys father responds in a caring way when he does first aid for him, lightly and gently, actions which make Harry feel safe and secure. We can also see his fathers commitment to being responsible and reliable when he sits by Harrys bed, all night, awake, and corset there in case his son, needs him.
