As their kindred deteriorates, he discovers his fascination with the world of prostitution. His lover leaves him for one of his friends and he finds a new love. Despite her initial violent opposition, he quickly begins experimenting with the incorporation of prostitution into their relationship. After many trials and tribulations, their relationship travel apart as well.
As the film progresses it becomes win that, unalike other men, he has no intention of sneaking most behind his partners back. He wants a plainspoken honesty about his habits. He meets a new love, Devin, with whom he believes this to be possible. He tells her flat out when he meets her, and she seems very open and unbothered by it.
However, she falls into a cycle of inebriation, and it becomes clear that on a deeper level she cannot tolerate his habits. Although their relationship ends, her alcoholism serves to show him of his own addition-driven behaviors. He seeks therapy, and enters another marriage. However, this marriage also fails.
He continues to go to therapy, and he finally develops a relationship with a woman that is satisfying enough for him to control his addictions. He states that he has not seen a prostitute in heptad years, the duration of their relationship. At the end of the movie, he walks into a church service and marries his lover.
