Final Project: Race and your Community LaTonya Vallejo-Geoino ETH/125 July 18, 2010 Deborah Arnold In the community where I live we accept so many different races. I am very proud to be a intermit of the African American community. I hope that we have scram a long way and will continue to get hold of the dreams that our ancestors had for their children and their childrenâs children. We argon a testament to the blood try and tears of the ones who came before us and though I believe we have come a long way we up to now have obstacles to achieve. When I look around my community I see many stack who look equivalent me. in that location are different races of course but in my particular community most pile resemble me. I did not know when we first moved here that the area in which we were moving was predominately âblackâ. Had I known this Iâm not sure if I would have moved here. My children are biracial and I would same to raise them in a more diversified community. One in which they are fitted to see stack who look a lot like them or they are in a situation to which at that place are people who are really willing to choose them without stereo instances. From what I have always heard and have seen for myself is that people usually gravitate towards people who look more like who they identify themselves to be.
According to the 2000 U.S Census report there were 188,660 people living in capital of Ohio Georgia, 50.3% were white, 43.9% were black and Hispanics made up 4.5%. As I go to different parts of Columbus I notice that more minorities live in what is considered the southeast side and when you go to the north side even though there are minorities there t seems like the whites have moved there. The school that my kids went to last year for a slice was predominately black. I felt like my kids were not getting the type of education my family and I were used to.
